Current Areas of Study

Agrobusiness & fisheries

Creating a sustainable process for Indonesia's biggest sector

As the world's largest archipelago country with tropical climates, Indonesia keeps its toes to keep both agrobusiness and fisheries as the country's key sector. However, with more than million tons of waste generated annually, our research center aims to reduce the waste by developing environmentally benign route for its conversion to various value-added entities.

Research areas:

separation and purification, fermentation/ anaerobic process, biorefinery to produce advanced materials (drug carriers, biomaterials), specialty compounds, biofertilizers, and biofuels

Manufacturing Process & Products

Designing zero-waste measures in the industrialization era

Contributing to more than 7% economic growth in Indonesia, the manufacturing sector emerges as one of the strategic areas highlighted by the government. While the industry grows significantly in the past few decades, its operation results in remarkable growth of the waste stream. Our team designs technologies to exploit this waste as a measure to keep the manufacturing process circular and sustainable.

Research areas:

Extraction, resource mining, recovery with the aim to produce fertilizer, catalyst, composite materials, and valuable metals for high technology industries

Pharmaceutical & Health

Developing systematic green strategies for Indonesia's skyrocketing industries

The viral crisis in the past few years drives the soaring growth of the pharmaceutical and health industries in Indonesia, as well as its disposal rate. Motivated by the principle of sustainability, we will deliver relevant strategies to minimize and/or convert the waste loads using various approaches.

Research areas:

separation and purification (including extraction, adsorption), employed for water purification, and fabrication of biomaterials and drug carriers
